How did God lift up the prophet Elijah from deep trouble? Continuing his series on the trouble faced by God's servants, Dr. Philip Ryken examines Elijah's suicidal depression in 1st Kings 19. Despite the great works that God had worked through him and his great faith, Elijah faced doubt and distress in the face of persecution. Fatigue, isolation, spiritual oppression, and dashed expectations all played a role in his depression, but God did not leave him alone. Ministering to Elijah with tenderness and affection, God showed His faithfulness and grace, giving the gifts of His presence, His encouragement, and His comfort. Drawing a connection between God's faithfulness to Elijah and His faithfulness to all who love Him, Dr. Ryken encourages students to stay faithful and steadfast in their own journeys.
