Dr. King is passionate about understanding what individual strengths and environments enable diverse humans to grow individually, relationally, and aspirationally. Her theologically-engaged psychology of thriving will focus on the integration of telos, spirituality, and virtue.
Pamela Ebstyne King is the Peter L. Benson Professor of Applied Developmental Science in the School of Psychology and Executive Director of the Thrive Center at Fuller Theological Seminary. Her primary research interests lie at the intersection of thriving and spiritual development. To this end she has led in building an empirical field of study of religious and spiritual development within developmental psychology that provides a psychological science perspective of spiritual formation. Her research has been published in various journals such as Developmental Psychology, Psychology of Religion and Spirituality, Applied Developmental Science, Journal of Early Adolescence, Journal of Positive Psychology, Journal of Psychology and Theology, and Journal of Research on Adolescence. King is coauthor of The Reciprocating Self: Human Development in Theological Perspective and Thriving with Stone-Aged Minds: Evolutionary Psychology, Christian Faith, and Human Flourishing, coeditor of The Handbook of Spiritual Development in Childhood and Adolescence.
The Scandrette Lectures have been offered annually since 1981 in honor of the founding member of our department and first Professor of Psychology at Wheaton College, Dr. Onas Scandrette.
Hosted by the School of Psychology, Counseling, and Family Therapy, the annual Scandrette Lecture Series features an outstanding contributor to the integration of Christian faith and psychology for the enrichment of our students, faculty, and campus community.
