Perhaps the biggest issue with oppression is when a society collectively agrees that certain, innocent people just aren't worth protecting. They speak of them in veiled or dehumanizing language (clump of cells, pregnancy, fetus, zygote, potential human, etc.) and they not only allow them to be killed indiscriminately but celebrate it like its a righteous act. They get attention away from the atrocity being committed by focusing on how the killing of these innocents will benefit others. Women will feel better, be wealthier, have better careers, not be straddled with the burdens of motherhood, or benefit in some other way. They respond to any discussion of the life being killed with a change of subject to the inconvenience or oppression of the woman (supposedly) if she can't kill her own son or daughter. So, to remove any victim status of the unborn we dehumanize them with language and focus on how killing them will benefit others even though these babies don't deserve for their parents and doctors to kill them.
It's easy to see atrocities in other cultures in history. It's not that easy to recognize it when it's happening in your own city on a daily basis.
