The Wheaton Center for Faith, Politics and Economics invited students, faculty and community members to a lecture by Steven C. Preston, "The Financial Crisis of 2008: A View from the Inside" at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, September 24, in the Meyer Science Center Lecture Hall, Room 145.
Steven C. Preston served as the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) from 2008-2009, after unanimous confirmation by the Senate. As the housing crisis ballooned, Preston expanded FHA capacity to meet mushrooming demand, broke ground on major public housing developments in New Orleans which had been stalled, expanded HUD’s ability to assist victims of natural disasters, and advanced sensible regulations requiring clearer disclosure of mortgage terms to borrowers. He also served on the board of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) and the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA).
This event was free and open to the public. For further details, contact fpe@wheaton.edu or visit www.wheaton.edu/fpe.
