Usually, the notion is that as a leader you should aim to make friends not fans. But in the case of expectations, you should be making fans. A “fan” is made when one not only meets expectations but exceeds them. Meeting a person’s expectations will save them from disappointment; but when you exceed that same person’s expectations, you have just created yourself a fan. So, when it comes to expectations, aim to make fans.
