This will be seen as a personal attack to many. It's really not. I'm trying to explain why it is that some people seem to see zero potential evidence for God and others see evidence for God pretty much everywhere. There's a fundamental divide in how we are thinking about everything we perceive.
What should be obvious (but never seems like it is) is that I am not trying to talk about every single skeptic who has ever lived. But this seems to represent enough of the skeptics I've met that it's worth talking about. An interesting experiment can be done to show what I mean. Think of a former skeptic you know. Is it true that at one time they thought there was pretty much zero evidence for God? Is it also true that when they came to believe in God they saw tons of evidence for God all over the place? Yeah, that's what I mean. It's like a switch got flipped on. It's like eyes were opened.
All this is not to dodge any thoughtful discussions of things like the fine tuning arguments, the contingency arguments, the prophecy arguments, the argument from consciousness, or the many other lines of evidence we can talk about which point to God. But I really do think that for those who see the world around them clearly, the evidence for God is overwhelming.
