Morality is a really good reason to believe in God. It's such a good reason that some atheists will actually go so far as to deny that objective moral facts are even a thing. In other words, they would have to say that nothing is really wrong and that it's just a preference that we don't like people stealing, torturing, murdering or lying, rather than thinking these things a really wrong. Some atheists or agnostics will actually go so far as to reject moral truth in order to escape the implications that real morality points toward God being real.
This situation leads to a dilemma. How do you respond to the person who is willing to deny morality? Well, that's a tough one. I think that in some cases they are just pretending to deny morality and one way to help them see it more clearly is to remind them of a time when they or someone they love has been wronged. That's what I did with this cell phone situation. The student did finally say that theft is genuinely wrong. Hopefully, this is one step on a path toward God.
