When John Smithbaker was born, his father had already abandoned the family, and tragically, had wanted John to be aborted. That “father wound” caused John to seek his self-worth in athletics and in the pursuit of sexual immorality. It’s an all-too-common story. Fifty percent of kids will go to bed tonight without their biological father in the home. Fatherless kids are twice as likely to drop out of school and they have a four times greater risk of living in poverty. But Smithbaker’s organization, “Fathers in the Field,” is helping by finding Christian men to connect with and mentor fatherless boys.
