Jesus did not give altar calls—at least not the way we understand them. He didn’t spend His time trying to persuade anyone that He was worthy of being followed. They either got it or they didn’t. In fact, oftentimes in the New Testament you find Jesus cautioning people against committing to follow Him if they were not ready to make the necessary sacrifices (see, for example, Matt. 16:24).
He wasn’t interested in drawing thousands of people for a surface-level faith. Jesus devoted Himself to raising up a few disciples who understood the cost and knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that He was worth everything.
