Ex. 12:42 (ESV)
It was a night of watching by the LORD, to bring them out of the land of Egypt; so this same night is a night of watching kept to the LORD by all the people of Israel throughout their generations.
During the Passover, you can imagine how the children of Israel must have had mixed feelings.
On the one hand, they must have been so apprehensive sitting in their homes, knowing that a terrifying event was about to unfold: the death of all the firstborn in Egypt. There in their homes, only a streak of blood on their doorposts separated them and the destruction that was happening outside.
On the other hand, they were full of HOPE because the day of freedom which they had been waiting for, was about to dawn on them!
The Passover was a night of WATCHING: God was watching over the children of Israel, even as they kept their eyes on the Lord.
This New Year, remember that God is watching over us. Let's keep our eyes on God ... because God is about to do a NEW THING (Is. 43)!
