The Book of Judges ends much as it proceeds: on an extremely dark note. No king. Everyone looking out only for themselves, doing what’s right in their own eyes. As such, it is a good reminder that the Bible isn’t just a repository of good behavior to emulate and bad behavior to avoid. It’s a grand story about God’s purposes for Israel, and ultimately all of Creation.
The lack of a king at the end of Judges presumes that there will someday be a true King, one who rules wisely and justly, and puts things to rights. Sounds like Jesus to us...
