Why the Bible is More Than Just a Collection of Verses
A big problem in the way that Christians approach scripture is that we see it as a collection of disconnected truths. This prevents many Christians from seeing the bigger story that the scripture captures.
This story is the grand story of the world. It is a description of the contours of reality.
A practical way to tell this story is in 4 chapters: Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Restoration. All great stories have a beginning, then a crisis, then a climax, then a resolution. This is because all great stories are great stories because of how the Biblical story works.
Creation. God created the world with purpose and meaning and as a result our lives have purpose and meaning.
Fall. Humans didn’t fulfill God’s created intent. Things went wrong. Death, suffering, and sadness entered the world.
Redemption. God is going to send a rescuer. Humans can’t fix themselves. The rescuer will save Humanity and the cosmos of the human effects of sin.
Restoration. God makes all things new.
The beautiful thing is that the scope of redemption and restoration is just as wide as the scope of creation and fall.
