Cher Leadbeater is the Diaper Bank Coordinator & Executive Director for the Greater Hampton Roads Diaper Bank in Virginia. Cher tells us that several years ago, she was holding her baby granddaughter and a story on the television caught her eye. The story was talking about how caregivers sometimes are forced to reuse disposable diapers by letting them dry in-between uses, as there was often not enough money to buy diapers. She said the thought of sore and diaper rash covered baby bottoms brought tears to her eyes. Cher tells Anne and the audience that God moved in her heart and she knew that she had to do something. Through research, she found out that the nearest bank or pantry that distributed diapers to those in need was in Richmond, VA more than 2 hours away. She tells us that she knew that 2 hours was too far to travel, if someone didn’t even have money for diapers. Cher was about to retire and she followed God’s prompting to reach out to a local ministry to see what she could do. With the help of that ministry, she started the Greater Hampton Roads Diaper Bank.
